Hi, I'm new here and recently diagnosed with PsA. Took 5 years to get the diagnoses, which is pretty average I think. However, the doctors are reluctant to link my tight Psoas to the PsA. It's been chronically tight for 5 years and no amount of Physio, strength training or stretching does anything to help. It's that tight it twists my body to the right and pulls my hip up. You can see that on my x ray. It only started when all the PsA symptoms started and I'm convinced it's related. But I can't… read more

Tightness in the psoas muscle could potentially be linked to PsA, especially if enthesitis (inflammation where tendons or ligaments attach to bone) is present in the hip area. Enthesitis is a common symptom of PsA and can cause pain and tightness in surrounding muscles as they try to protect the joint. While your doctors may be hesitant to connect the two, your symptoms align with how PsA can affect the body.

To manage this, you might consider working with a physical therapist experienced in PsA to develop a tailored plan. Gentle, low-impact exercises like yoga or tai chi may help reduce tightness and inflammation. Additionally, discussing treatment options for PsA, such as NSAIDs, DMARDs, or biologics, with your doctor could address the underlying inflammation and potentially relieve the muscle tightness. Always consult your healthcare provider before trying new treatments.

Thanks for replying Gregory. I feel your pain as a tight muscle is no joke. I have tight muscles up and down my spine and into shoulders and arms too. The Psoas is the worst. Do you find anything helps?
