I found it v useful last year when my scalp psoriasis suddenly flared up for the first time in 40yrs (- probably stress related). The itch was terrible and I could feel the build up of scales on my scalp. I used salicylic acid in a cream especially for psoriasis bought over the counter. From first application it eased the itching. It reduced the flakes too. A year later I can’t see or feel the patches, but occasionally it gets itchy so I reapply as needed. However, reducing the stress and eating healthier with minimal processed sugar has helped.

Over-the-counter products containing salicylic acid are available in strengths from 0.5% to 2%. Higher concentrations require a prescription. Important note: Salicylic acid can cause stinging and skin irritation if left on too long or if the concentration is too high. When using products with salicylic acid alongside prescription medications, it can actually help the prescribed medication work better by helping it penetrate the skin more effectively.

Always consult with your dermatologist before adding new products containing salicylic acid to your skincare routine.
