Psoriasis can actually affect lymphocyte levels in both directions, but research shows that people with psoriasis often have slightly decreased levels of lymphocytes rather than raised levels. This is part of how psoriasis impacts your overall white blood cell count.

The relationship between psoriasis and lymphocytes is complex because T cells (a type of lymphocyte) play a key role in causing psoriasis symptoms. These cells can mistakenly attack healthy skin tissue, thinking it's harmful bacteria. Your doctor may monitor something called the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as part of managing your psoriasis. This ratio is often higher in people with psoriasis and may help:

• Diagnose different types of psoriasis
• Track how well treatments are working

If you're taking biologics or oral treatments for psoriasis, your doctor will regularly check your white blood cell counts to ensure they stay within a healthy range.
