Hmmm, maybe they meant to clean? Like not visible? That's my guess

Hello, my question was just about cleaning the flared area. I feel like for sanitation, this area is on my arm and hand, I want to clean but it’s so flared and flakey I don’t want to overdue it. I have been washing and exfoliating the dead skin a few times a day including shower. Then I moisturizing with aloe, coconut oil and some petroleum free jelly., or the medication, if it is time. Then I cover with a loose long sleeve cotton shirt and cuff I made from an old cotton sock. This keeps the flakes from happening so fast and allow me to go out in public if I need to.

How often should you clean and remove flakes during a psoriasis flare?

There's no set schedule for cleaning and removing scales during a flare-up. The frequency depends on your individual symptoms and what feels comfortable for you.

Many people with psoriasis find that gentle, regular care helps manage flaking and buildup. You can incorporate scale removal into your daily routine, such as during showers or when applying treatments.

Tips for managing scales during flares:

- Use salicylic acid or tea tree oil shampoos to help soften and remove scales
- Apply conditioner or petroleum jelly to protect sensitive areas
- Avoid picking at scales, as this can damage the skin underneath and potentially worsen the flare
- Keep skin moisturized, as dry skin under scales can be uncomfortable

One MyPsoriasisTeam member shared their approach: "I'm using salicylic acid and tea tree oil shampoos. How do I remove these scales without them coming back? Underneath the scales, my skin is very dry."

The key is being gentle and consistent with your skin care routine. If you're unsure about the best approach for your specific situation, talk to your dermatologist about safe methods for scale removal during flares.
