A MyPsoriasisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Larchmont, NY

I have been on Cosentyx for 6 months. It works beautifully: nails and skin clear 100%. The problem is my liver enzymes keep rising. I am also on a statin. Seeing a hepatologist finally but it took 3 months to find one. Does anyone else have liver issues and cosentyx?

What a frustrating situation — Cosentyx is clearly doing its job beautifully for your skin and nails, but rising liver enzymes are absolutely worth taking seriously. Good on you for pushing to see a hepatologist!

Cosentyx (secukinumab) is an IL-17 inhibitor, and liver damage is considered rare with this class of biologic — it's actually the TNF-alpha inhibitors like infliximab (Remicade) that are more commonly linked to liver issues.

That said, statins are also known to affect liver enzymes in some people, so your hepatologist will likely want to untangle whether Cosentyx, the statin, or a combination of both is contributing to the rise. Other MyPsoriasisTeam members have shared similar experiences with liver enzyme concerns while on psoriasis treatments. One member shared that they were taken off their medication after suspected liver damage showed up in blood tests. Another warned others to stay on top of liver function tests, saying: "Make sure you're as aware of your liver test results as your doctor."

Here are some things worth discussing with your hepatologist:

- Whether the statin or Cosentyx (or both) may be contributing
- How frequently liver function tests should be monitored going forward
- Whether any lifestyle adjustments, like limiting alcohol, could help protect your liver
- What thresholds would prompt a medication change

The fact that Cosentyx is working so well for you is genuinely great news — hopefully the liver picture becomes clearer soon with specialist support.
