Anyone with scalp psoriasis ever had problems with dealing with barbers when getting a hair cut?
i used to dread getting a hair cut. It was always embarrassing to me.. I always announced to the hairdresser before they started that I had Psoriasis .. When I found one I liked finally,, I stuck with them so I didnt have to explain anymore.. I started using Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my head at night with a shower cap on and slept with it...It did wonders..no more bleeding or cracking and it took off the heavy plaque too. my hair is growing back now also.
Had a horrible experience with a hairdresser when i was 17 , but since then all hairdresses are great about it. I just let them know before hand.
Yes I feel embarrassed when I am to have my haircut and my scalp has broken out, so I usually cancel my appointment and try again another time. Being a hairdresser myself , I know that we are all trained to recognise and understand many skin conditions but that doesn't make the experience any easier .
I think most hairdressers are taught about common skin problems when they are training. The ones I have met have all heard of psoriasis and are not fazed by it.
I stopped going , as Im retired now I just pull it back in a pony tail , when I did go ,even though I would ask about doing my hair with my P ,they always seemed to act as if I was contagious, it was hard to deal with
