Anybody else having issues with depression that you can't control since developing psoriatic arthritis? I've read quite a bit about inflammatory cytokines causing inflammation in the brain and potentially causing chemical imbalances. Any treatments you've tried with success for this depression?

I have found that exercise, vitamin B-3, vitamin d, folate, vitamin c and magnesium have helped me a lot. I also try and stay busy. There have been a massive amount of studies done on the use of vitamins to treat depression. All have shown to be highly effective. I refuse to use antidepressants myself. The problem with use of antidepressants is that unless you know exactly what the imbalance is, giving just any antidepressant can create a secondary imbalance instead. I forgot the name of the neurologist, but he has a video explaining how the use of a brain scan can find the exact imbalance. You can research the use of vitamins for depression. It might be worth a shot. Just know that you're not alone. Here to talk if you need to!

My psoriasis has never been taken seriously. I did not know what it was, it started on my feet and then moved to the back of my head under the hairline and onto my ears. It is only recently that I have self diagnosed it as pustular psoriasis. As well as that I have experienced a multitude of symptoms, depression, tiredness, joint and muscle pain, brain fog. I was not aware of Psoriatic Arthritis. I asked the Dr if my symptoms could be due to this. She did some tests, said not arthritis and no inflammation. Referred for Physio and advised to do Pilates. Not started Pilates yet. I have problems getting down on the floor and up again. Scared of injuring myself. She gave me some medication to rub on my scalp. It formed a good barrier and stopped the itching. A week after using, I got a very large and painful boil on my head, I stopped using it. I think the medication just drove the pustules deeper and made them build up under the skin by preventing them getting out in multiple areas. I use Weleda skin food cream and just live with it daily. I have been using meditation tapes daily for a couple of years, Denise Linn and recently Abraham Hicks. Check them out on YouTube. This has helped with the depression. I have taken anti depressants in my time, caused more harm than good. I just keep trying things, Apple cider vinegar, lemon water, turmeric. I would Love to be free of it. I am thankful as from reading other’s experiences on here, mine does not appear as bad.

Thanks for all the feedback. As if the pain and skin issues weren't enough. I'm determined to beat this feeling. I've been given antidepressants more than a few times by general practitioners. I've tried a few but they all make me feel terrible. I'm starting to think that autoimmune induced depression should be treated differently. Rather than assume that our neurotransmitters are off, I feel that it's the inflammation that's causing the mental issues. Fingers crossed for a better treatment.

I too take anti depressants and try to walk a lot ( when I’m able). The great outdoors is great for uplifting mood. X
