I have had psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis since I was a teen. I have been on so many meds..none last long. They seem to work and then my body attacks them so they are unable to work
Enbrel- didn't do much
Humira- worked like a charm totally clear for almost a year. Then I had a reaction my whole body turned red and swelled up it took the doctors months to clear that mess up
Remicade- is made from rat pee...not a joke...it made my arms and legs feel like pins and needles...it… read more
I have had psoriasis for 36 years. Used only topicals, such as Devonex, etc. then tried Otezla because I was leery of biological with a possible side effect of lymphoma and other cancers. It worked for 1 1/2 years, then it came back worse than ever before. My doctor put me on Ilumya injections which does not have cancer as a SE. I have had my 2nd injection and I am 90% clear. I had 2 a month apart and now every 3 months. I pray it will continue to work. It is worth a try!!
Thank you for the suggestion. I will see about giving it a try.
Betty, I can’t take those meds either. I took Humira and methotrexate and got a terrible infection. Lost my artificial knee because of it. No more for me. Has anyone tried the medical marijuana? I’m going to ask my doc for it. I just can’t take the other meds.
Third infusion of remicade was a doubled dose. I've never felt anything like that in my life. It hurt so bad i could barely get out of bed and couldn't lift my extremities without excruciating pain. Rheumatology assured me theres no way i was having a reaction to the medication. I ended up calling an ambulance to emergency. A shot of demeral and a prescription and i was given a ride back home. It took about twenty minutes to get out of my friends car and in the door. The pain subsided after another day and a half. Enbral was my next adventure. I had a hard time giving myself injections at first. This med made everything i ate taste metallic and i had a sore in my ear that wouldn't heal. After that i said "to hell with this! I'll take my chances. About five years later my body seized up and had a hard time climbing ladders and getting up and down stairs. Enter...Methotrexate and shortly after that Humira. The methotrexate i built a resistance to but the humira gave me back some of my mobility so i went back to work for 7+ years driving big rigs cross country. This year has not been easy. The humira seemed to keep my skin clear but caused my immune system to lower and have had multiple infections. A small scrape on my right hand turned into a week in the hospital and three weeks in a rehab facility for IV antibiotics three times a day and a script for another 50 days after i was released. Back on SSD now and waiting to be approved for a hip replacement surgery. Psa affects my hands, feet, lower back and one shoulder but the hip is the worst. This has been my experience with biologics............my choices are give up or continue to fight. At this point i'd trade the pain just to have the misery of skin problems. Psoriasis is so frustrating....to put it mildly.
