But I am nore concerned about ONE nail on my left thumb. The cuticle hardens and had to be shaved down so often, it has receded 2 to 3 millimeters... and the left 3 to 4 millimeters of the nail are always scaly and thick now. Anybody having success getting the cuticle to grow back? Or getting the nail to grow in properly again?

Lol sorry I guess I fixated on 'thumb' and didn't read the rest. Nail salons are generally clean and safe (just research to double-check), but if you have reservations, just talk with your GP about a podiatrist referral. Honestly, they would be the next best reference after your derm/GP.

Finger and toe nail issues are common with PSA and my docs have recommended lotions and creams that focus on nails to be applied immediately after showering. Part of the way they diagnose us is by looking for screwed up vascularity under our nailbeds. Also, a second helping of Reynaud's (sp?) Disease is not terribly uncommon- sorry! The compromised blood supply really messes with our nail beds and I've heard of people having digits amputated because of it in severe cases so pay attention to those fingers and toes.

Buy cuticle oil or coconut oil and massage that into your hands as needed. Keep them moisturized as you would other problem areas. Trim as needed but try not to go too harsh if it's especially irritated or hard. Perhaps a monthly manicure could also help bring life back to your nails.

No I wouldn’t pull them off. It’s crazy everything we deal with.
