How Do You Explain To Family Your Vulnerability To Sickness While On Biologics To Fight An Autoimmune Disease?
Easter with the extended family was wonderful, but I found myself lost for words as to how to get them all to take me seriously about my immunity once I start taking Enbrel.
I'm waiting to see if any of us get the sickness one family was inflicted by that day. I can't start the meds if I'm sick! A few of them already had it, two of them were home sick and the others weren't worried aside to say they knew it was something contagious. Yet there they were anyways.

I explained that, my immune system is overworking to attack my own body and not attacking many 'bugs/virus/colds" etc. Then on top of that risk I now have medication that makes it even easier for me to get sick. So the medication knocks off my immune system even more to try and stop it attacking itself. At the same time it means it fights even less "bugs".
Separately, don't feel bad at all. That's what should be done anyway.
I've stopped kissing my children, as they will be the ones to make me unwell. I feel mean, but its for the best.

It's hard to explain Food Allergy's... do U have a Favorite Food that U can Consume without Neg. Effects? Try Introducing it at a Family Gathering. Promote it as The New Food of The Holiday. Worked for Me.🙂
