Members addressed the question about how psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis develop and whether they are contagious, overwhelmingly affirming that they are genetic autoimmune conditions, not communicable by touch, though they can skip generations and are often triggered by stress, trauma, infections, or environmental factors. Several members shared deeply personal stories of living with severe symptoms from childhood, enduring decades of misdiagnosis and isolation, and ultimately finding strength through self-advocacy, community support, and lifestyle changes like stress reduction, dietary adjustments, and mindfulness. A recurring theme was the importance of not letting the disease define you, rejecting stigma and embarrassment, focusing on quality of life, and remembering that you are not alone in this journey.

There are some great answers here. I loved all the feed-back. I got psoriasis in 1963. I was 5 years old. I was 70 to 80% covered a lot of my life. No, it didn't kill me, but there were times I wish I wasn't here.

I started having problems with PsA at 25, but the doctors said the pain I was having was all in my head. That's another whole story. I finally got diagnosed at the age of 50.

It’s hard to understand what it’s like to live with chronic illness unless you’ve been there. We have pain, depression, loniness, etc. To be frank, it’s a lot.

I just wanted to add that I know I am no longer alone with this illness. I have a tribe of people who support me. I used to compare myself to other people. That's another story, but I did give that up.

I had to focus on my quality of life, not how others think I should looked what I should wear to cover up becasue "they" were embarassed of me.

My illness made me stronger and I stop letting it define me!! We are all in this together.

We got this!!!!

I think both viruses & vaccines activate autoimmune diseases. Used to think it was was just viruses but starting to think it might be both. But I already had psoriasis & PsA plus I refused the vaxx
