It's been a surprise to me that rheumatologists are not primarily concerned about pain control. They focus on inflammation, and their view of that is mostly by looking at labs and x-rays. Unfortunately, the drugs that reduce inflammation cause pain such as headaches and nausea, and don't seem to help with the joint pain of PsA, not nearly as well as NSAIDS like Aleve
What has been your experience, if you have joint pain from PsA? What drugs worked so you didn't also need NSAID pain relievers… read more
Hiya! It has helped tremendously. I am one that doesn't like the head fog, so I use rso concentrate under my tongue. Just like a 1/3 to a 1/2 grain of rice amount. It doesn't give a foggy mind which I appreciate. The RSO can also be used with body oils as a topical. I also use it to make baked goods and other edible options. I do however, get the giggles 😂
Thank you, friends, for your replies. It's eye-opening to hear what you go through to get relief. I looked up Targin, I hadn't heard of it. It has a warning about liver damage. We have to use something so we can move!
So far, Aleve does help me quite a bit, but then I wonder what's happening with my kidneys. I think the rheumatology docs are scared to be blamed for ruining our kidneys or livers, maybe that's why they don't talk about pain. Clearly, there is a lot more they could do to improve care for people with this disease. The TV ads make it sound like all our problems are over with the "biologics" -Ha.
Best of luck to you all.

Yes, you are exactly right, they are primarily concerned with inflammation...The Rheumys' think if you control inflammation the pain will go away....Bull !! Your Primary Care can refer you to "pain mgmt" clinic or doctor...If I was in pain and I'm sure you are I would complain about the pain until they done something 😠😡 and believe you me it takes more than just Aleve or Ibuprofen...Also a Dr of Osteopath would be a good primary care Dr than just a regular MD...Why ? Because they go to school an additional 4 yrs longer AND have to have knowledge of the body and illness as a "whole".
I believe a Dr like this will have DO after their name indicating they are specialized in this...You may want to change to a Dr of Osteopathic medicine instead of an MD
I really found a ton of relief with cosentyx. (Sp) I was on that for a few years before I became immune to it after being off of it for illness. I used to take 3 narcotics and pain patches. It was bad. My primary is willing to give whatever I need for pain, but I had no quality of life when I was on the narcotics and slept 20 hours a day. So I did get my mmj card to help and the relief has been amazing. I am just coming off a months long stretch of Prednisone, and that's been awful. I dont take any of the other nsaids since they werent very effective for me. I hate that pain is not a top priority anymore with specialists. Hugs 🤗
Thanks, Lisa, for telling about RSO for PsA pain. I hadn't heard of it, so I looked it up:

What is RSO?
Rick Simpson Oil, called RSO for short, is one of the most versatile and lauded cannabis innovations—an oil created by Rick Simpson, a Canadian engineer and cannabis advocate who was radicalized to cannabis activism by a work accident that led to various health issues.
The story goes that he was able to resolve his health issues with RSO, a dark, tar-like cannabis extract that straddles the line of concentrate, edible, and topical.
Put simply, RSO is an oil derived from cannabis. But rather than a solvent extract that strips trichomes from buds, RSO contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and additional compounds of the whole cannabis plant.
The extraction process is complex and fairly long, similar to making a tincture. It’s typically near-black in color, and, admittedly, doesn’t taste great due to its high amount of plant matter (it uses the whole plant).
RSO was created as a medicinal therapeutic for cancer and other chronic health conditions, like MS and asthma. While Rick Simpson no longer produces the oil himself, it remains a crucial ingredient in the treatment plans of patients across North America.

What Is Rick Simpson Oil (RSO)?
Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO as its supporters refer to it, is a cannabis oil made from the marijuana plant.
Unlike other oils, RSO contains high amounts of THC, the active compound in marijuana which creates the trademark, mind-altering high.
Cannabidiol (CBD) oils are cannabis extract oils also used for medicinal purposes, however, these oils are typically made from the hemp plant. Cannabidiol oils contain high amounts of CBD and very little THC, whereas Rick Simpson Oil contains up to 90 percent THC and small amounts of CBD...
