What can help genital psoriasis clear up when calcipotriene causes burning?

It's really tough dealing with the pain and discomfort in such a sensitive area. You're right that high-strength steroids shouldn't be used there, but low-strength topical steroids are actually the first-line treatment for genital psoriasis and can be very effective when used for short periods (less than four weeks).

Calcipotriene can indeed be irritating, which is why it's typically a second or third-line treatment. Talk to your doctor about switching to a low-strength steroid cream specifically approved for sensitive areas, or ask about nonsteroidal options like tacrolimus (Protopic) or pimecrolimus (Elidel), which are often better tolerated on delicate skin. Some helpful tips from MyPsoriasisTeam members to ease symptoms while treating genital psoriasis:

- Try cold compresses or refrigerated moisturizer for immediate relief
- Use fragrance-free, gentle cleansers (avoid antibacterial soaps)
- Apply fragrance-free moisturizer frequently, especially after bathing
- Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear
- Take lukewarm (not hot) baths with colloidal oatmeal

A MyPsoriasisTeam member shared: "Oatmeal bath and clobetasol ointment used sparingly when itching and burning gets unbearable." Another suggested witch hazel, though it may sting initially.

Always check with your doctor before trying new treatments, even over-the-counter ones. You deserve relief from this discomfort!
