I did not think of that....my son was a wrestler from 5th grade until he graduated...they would come to our house to sweat weight off in our attic, go to another house to lift weights, another house to wrestle and so on....and his knees took a beating and now I about died when I saw how much weight he lifted with his legs and then the pressure on his knees when he does the squats with the weights on his shoulders....he did not wrestle in college but once he started teaching he started wrestling again and gives these middle school kids a run for their money. He also coaches at the high school and he said about half of them tower over him

The upper body can be the culprit for sure

How does psoriatic arthritis affect your knees, especially when lifting heavy weights?

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) commonly affects the knees, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness that can make activities like lifting heavy objects particularly challenging.

When PsA affects your knees, you may experience:

* Joint inflammation that causes pain and swelling
* Stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting
* Reduced range of motion that feels like your knees won't bend properly
* Heat in the affected joint
* Pain behind the knees

The inflammation from PsA can also affect entheses - the places where tendons and ligaments attach to bones around your knee. This condition, called enthesitis, creates additional pain and stiffness that makes weight-bearing activities more difficult. Why lifting heavy weights impacts your knees:

When you lift heavy objects, you're putting extra stress on joints that are already inflamed. The combination of inflammation and increased pressure can worsen symptoms and potentially contribute to joint damage over time if PsA isn't well-managed.

It's important to talk with your healthcare provider about your symptoms. They can recommend treatments to control inflammation and protect your joints. Medications like DMARDs can help prevent further damage, while physical therapy might teach you modified lifting techniques that put less stress on your knees.

Consider working with your doctor on activity modifications that let you stay active while protecting your joints during flare-ups.
