Hi Rhonda! I’m new here too, but have a lot of first hand experience with Prednisone. My hubby has a different autoimmune disease and was on prednisone for many years. There are bad long term effects to taking prednisone and I’d recommend doing your research on taking it as a therapeutic. It makes the skin very thin, causes bone weakness, heart and lung problems and more. Since he was switched to infusions, he hasn’t been on prednisone since. Talk to your doctor and then decide what is best for you. Hoping the best for you and sending you hugs.

Can you take prednisone with biologic medication for psoriasis?

Prednisone is typically not the first choice for treating psoriasis itself, as doctors have traditionally been concerned it could trigger flares. However, research has shown that flares linked to systemic corticosteroids like prednisone are actually less common than once thought.

Prednisone is more commonly prescribed for psoriatic arthritis, which affects about 30% of people with psoriasis. It can help reduce joint inflammation and pain.

If you're considering taking prednisone while on a biologic, it's important to discuss this with your doctor. Both medications affect your immune system:

* Biologics suppress specific parts of the immune system to reduce inflammation
* Prednisone reduces overall immune system activity and stops cells from making inflammatory chemicals

Because both medications impact immunity, combining them could increase your risk of infections. Your doctor can help weigh the benefits and risks based on your specific situation and determine if this combination is appropriate for managing your symptoms.
