Last year my Rheumatologist advised me that a spot in my ribs that was sore (near my collarbone) was indeed PsA. I've had more areas 'appear' recently where is tender to touch and feels like someone is pinching me at the front of ribs under the breastbone. My GP said it's not PsA as it only affects joints but my Rheumy said anywhere can be affected in my body. It's really bad at my T10/Rib also to the point I've had a cortsone injection there and am due to get another one in the next few weeks… read more
I have severe psoriatic arthritis. It gives me amongst other pain stabbing chest pain. In numerous spots in my chest/ribs. 1 in 3 patients who present with chest pains actually have this problem and not a cardiac issue. I am on biological medication and also get the first rib subclavicular joint and acromioclavicular joints injected with steroids and local anesthetic. This provides extra relief in a flare up. Inflammation of these joints can cause pain in chest across the shoulder, up the neck, down the arm and back. Many years ago a group of medical students in Australia injected each other with hypertonic saline to map the pain. It was very painful and individual pathways. It was written up in medical literature. My rheumatologist was actually one of the doctors. I don’t think many doctors would show such a level of dedication today. Enthesis is very real and influences the pain. Read up about your condition from medical websites and registered support groups. Knowledge is power the more informed you are about your health the better.
Good luck
Your Rheumatologist is absolutely right — and after 24 years with PsA, you've clearly learned to trust the specialist! PsA inflammation can affect cartilage, tendons, and ligaments throughout the body, not just the joints. The rib pain you're describing under your breastbone sounds very consistent with costochondritis Show Full Answer
Yes, I’ve have the rib pain.
I will be discussing my symptoms with my Dermatologist PA. Thank you for the information.
I’m so glad I viewed this information about Coctochondritis. I recently developed soreness in my ribs and sternum areas. Thought it might be a cardio problem, however, from reading this member’s post it is the same symptoms.
