I’ve been diagnosed with plaque psoriasis. Currently it is all over my scalp causing hair loss. I have just started taking Skyrizi injections which seems to be helping to decrease plaque build up on my scalp.

It's great to hear that Skyrizi is already showing some positive results for your scalp psoriasis! Red light therapy (RLT) is an interesting option worth knowing about, though it's still considered an emerging treatment for plaque psoriasis.

Unlike traditional phototherapy (which uses UV light), red light therapy penetrates deeper into the skin — about a quarter inch — and works by stimulating cell regeneration and healing. Importantly, it does not use UV light, which means it carries less risk of skin cancer when used properly.

One small study showed promising results, with participants experiencing 60% to 100% clearance of plaque psoriasis after four to five weeks of treatment. However, researchers agree that more data is needed to fully understand its safety and effectiveness. Since you're already on Skyrizi, there are a few important things to consider before adding red light therapy:

- Talk to your dermatologist first — combining treatments needs professional guidance, especially with a biologic like Skyrizi
- Results vary — some MyPsoriasisTeam members report positive outcomes, while others see little improvement
- A sauna specifically hasn't been well-studied for psoriasis — heat and sweating can sometimes trigger flares in some people

It's definitely worth raising with your dermatologist, who can help weigh whether it's a good complement to your current treatment plan.
