Great question about fabric choices with psoriasis! While there isn't specific research on fleece and psoriasis, here's what is known about fabrics in general.

Fleece is a synthetic fabric, and synthetic materials like polyester (which most fleece is made from) tend to be less breathable than natural fibers. This can trap heat and moisture against the skin, which may irritate psoriasis plaques or trigger flares.

Here's a quick breakdown to consider:

- Cotton is generally recommended as the best fabric choice — it's breathable, soft, and reduces sweating
- Synthetic fabrics (like fleece/polyester) can trap sweat and heat, potentially worsening irritation
- Loose-fitting clothing in any fabric tends to be more comfortable than tight fits

The Psoriasis Association recommends sticking with 100% cotton where possible, especially for items that sit directly against affected skin. If you love your fleece, wearing a soft cotton layer underneath could help create a barrier between the fabric and your skin.

It's always worth checking in with your dermatologist if a particular fabric seems to be triggering flares.

Polyester is petrolium based and some fleece is made from recycling plastic bottles. So to me cotton or wool would be the better option. Any man made synthetic is gonna be an issue eventually as our skin absorbs the chemicals and our body has to detox.

I prefer the cotton the polyester and other fabrics like knitted clothing and such see to trap heat c ausing more areas to itch and sweat more than cotton clothing.
