Aside from the medicated creams and ointments the Derm would prescribe. I used Gold Bond cream specifically for PSA and wrapped the affected area with Saran Wrap if I could at that time.

Dealing with psoriasis itch is one of the most frustrating parts of the condition — you're definitely not alone in this! Between 60% and 90% of people with psoriasis experience itching, and it can seriously affect sleep and daily life. The good news is there are several approaches that can help.

Here are some practical tips recommended by dermatologists and shared by others managing psoriasis:

- Moisturize regularly — Apply moisturizer right after bathing while skin is still damp
- Use lukewarm water — Hot showers dry out skin and can make itching worse
- Try gentle, fragrance-free cleansers — Fewer additives mean less irritation
- Use cool compresses — These can soothe itchy patches quickly
- Try menthol or camphor-based products — These can provide temporary itch relief
- Keep nails short — To minimize skin damage if you scratch without realizing it
- Avoid alcohol — It's been linked to worsening psoriasis symptoms On the treatment side, topical corticosteroids (creams or ointments prescribed by a dermatologist) are often the first line of defense against itch. Other treatments like UVB light therapy, coal tar products, and medications like Otezla or Humira have also helped many people.

Some MyPsoriasisTeam members have found antihistamines helpful, especially at night when itching tends to be worse. Options like Benadryl, Allegra, Claritin (loratadine), and hydroxyzine have all been mentioned. Hydroxyzine in particular may help with sleep since it causes drowsiness — though always check with a doctor before starting anything new. Some natural remedies that MyPsoriasisTeam members have found soothing include:

- Coconut oil — Reported to provide quick itch relief
- Oatmeal baths or paste — Can help reduce scales and calm irritation
- Hemp butter — Another popular option for moisturizing and soothing skin

Stress management through mindfulness, yoga, or meditation can also help reduce flares and the itching that comes with them.

If itching is significantly affecting quality of life, it's worth having an open conversation with a dermatologist — there are many options to explore together!
