It very much does matter. You need anything that touches your skin to be in its purest cleanest form. If you have time to read my story you will find some helpful things to try. Message me if you have questions.

That response might leave you feeling a little... unshampooed of answers! ๐Ÿ˜„ While your dermatologist may not have specific concerns about your current products, research suggests that shampoo choices can actually make a real difference for scalp psoriasis.

Around 80% of people with psoriasis experience it on the scalp, so finding the right shampoo is worth paying attention to. Here are some key ingredients to look for in medicated shampoos:

- Coal tar โ€“ Slows down skin cell growth, reducing scaling and thickening of scalp lesions
- Salicylic acid โ€“ Softens and helps remove plaques more gently
- Selenium sulfide โ€“ Reduces yeast and bacteria buildup that can worsen inflammation
- Zinc pyrithione โ€“ Another helpful option for managing scalp symptoms There are also ingredients to avoid, particularly sodium lauryl sulfate โ€” looking for "sulfate-free" shampoos is a good idea. Fragrances and dyes can also irritate sensitive psoriatic skin.

A tip shared by a MyPsoriasisTeam member: avoid washing hair daily, as this can dry out the scalp and strip away natural oils and helpful treatments.

It's also worth alternating between medicated and non-medicated shampoos, since overusing ingredients like salicylic acid can actually dry the scalp further โ€” and a dry scalp is an itchy scalp! A good conditioner can help keep hair healthy while using medicated shampoos.

Look for products carrying the National Psoriasis Foundation Seal of Recognition as a helpful guide when shopping.

My Derm told me to alternate between T-Cell and T Gel but only twice a week as they can make your hair dry. It helped a little but it wonโ€™t treat the psoriasis, you need something else either creams or other treatments. Good luck!

The type of shampoo and conditioner absolutely does make a difference! There are products out there that are very mild and ( clean formulation)
I use Paul Mitchell shampoo one original. then follow up with Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner. Conditioner only on the ends of my hair never on the scalp. I try to stay away from styling products as much as possible. Good juju hope you find something that helps to ease the burning and itch.

Brief back story. I have dealt with skin cancer issues for several years and developed a proprietary blend of essential oils to aid me with skin cancer and pre skin cancer issues. My results have been miraculous. I believe this blend of essential oils will be very effective against skin psoriasis as well. I am looking for ten volunteers to try the product. I will send you the product and it costs you nothing. What I would require from you is basic information, name, address, email and phone number. You must have an active case of skin psoriasis and be willing to use the product three times daily for one month and discuss the results. The product is a blend of the following essential and carrier oils: Sandalwood, Frankincense Carterii, Myrrh, Tea Tree, Geranium, Oregano, Olive Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and Jojoba Oil. There are no other ingredients or additives. All you do is add a couple of drops on the affected area at least three times daily. I believe this will be very beneficial to whoever uses it. If interested, please contact me at (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators) or by text at (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators).

Thank you and best of luck on the treatment options you select.
